Laura Coelho Farina

I have a Law degree from the University of São Paulo, and I am recently specialized in Conflict Mediation from the University of Barcelona.

It was a mix of social/family influence with my strong will for justice and my fascination for the art of argumentation that led me to choose Law School.

During my graduation period, however (along with my internship in the Criminal Court of the Public Defender’ Office from the State of São Paulo), I understood that the Judicial System is not able to approach each social demand in a way to investigate its complexity and get to know it, but rather it works from a distance from the parts, and operates by simplifications.

I started looking for fields of study and action where there would be more "integrity", so to speak, in the analysis of social demands. Where complex issues would be faced with equal complexity: with attention to the greatest possible amount of the different influences, of the different components of the analyzed object.

Thus began my search for multidisciplinary fields of study and action. It was in 2017 that I learned about the Alternative Dispute Resolution, in the University Arbitration course.

Since then, marveling at the cohesion between the science of communication, neuroscience, behavioral science, legal science, negotiation science, social studies, and psychology, I became involved in carrying out the desire to study these disciplinary interrelationships through a structured Mediation program, and that's how I came to Spain.

During my period in the Official Master in Conflict Mediation, I was able to study/develop the Nonviolent Communication, the intercultural awareness, the self-awareness and self-management, some different negotiation strategies, different dialogue resources and different strategies for generating solutions.

I am now a practitioner of the ability to integrate knowledge and apply it independently, in different settings and situations.

In my field of work, I hope that my skills can be applied and improved. It is essential for me that I can serve the organization, the society and myself at the same time. (A job that “nurtures”, as a colleague says).

The job I am looking for must be one where there is human potential to develop, such as dialog, expression, empathy and understanding, listening, caring, and adaptability or resilience.

I can find creative solutions to complex problems and bring harmony and cohesion where there is chaos. I love working with groups and am a multicultural learning enthusiast. I am good at languages.

I need to gain experience and eager for the opportunity to learn more.

Finally, I am open and malleable (prone to considering new projects and previously unexplored fields), and very committed when interested in the proposal.
