Jian Xiang Lian

As a Postdoctoral Researcher at CIC EnergiGUNE in Euskadi, I specialize in applying advanced modeling techniques and artificial intelligence to drive my research.

Driven by a passion for material science and innovative technology, I am a highly motivated researcher with an innate curiosity and a strong self-learning aptitude. My professional interests lie in contributing to sustainable energy research, leveraging modern technological tools, including programming and artificial intelligence. With a deep commitment to sustainability, I aspire to work in an eco-responsible institution that allows me to apply my skills and develop my scientific career in pursuit of this important objective.

From February 2013 to January 2017, Dr. Jian Xiang Lian completed a Ph.D. at the University of Mons, Belgium, supervised by Prof. Yoann Olivier and Prof. David Beljonne. He studied the geometry, electronics, and charge transport of graphene surfaces using first-principles calculations and molecular dynamics as part of the UPGRADE project. Afterwards, he conducted postdoctoral research with Prof. Roberto Lazzaroni on RTILs–graphene interfaces for energy storage.

In 2018, he joined Dr. Javier Carrasco at CIC energiGUNE, investigating ionic diffusion in layered transition metal oxides and oxygen diffusion for thermochemical storage.

From 2021, in Prof. Samira Siahrostami’s group at the University of Calgary, he applied DFT and MD to clean energy materials.

In October 2023, he rejoined CIC energiGUNE for a new postdoc under Dr. Carrasco, focusing on high-throughput screening of Li-based materials for LIBs and AI-based prediction of battery degradation and state of health
