Sobre Corey Baker:

With twenty years of teaching experience, including in Australia, England, Germany and China; I have gained a wide range of skills that would benefit your school community greatly. My leadership and teaching career have been mainly in the IB programs, in both PYP and MYP, and the British National Curriculum. These, coupled with my HOD and Director of Sport roles, has given me a unique understanding of the importance of a well-balanced program and teamwork between my schools, other schools and sports organisation’s needs. This understanding of a whole school approach has been central to my leadership in other schools’ successes have come via excellent communication and listening skills, which would be advantageous at your school. The experience gained will also help in creating stronger links between teachers, parents and student’s needs. Within the role at SSIS I have overseen the update of curriculum, strong assessments and reporting techniques to help track students’ performance and their understanding of how and why they improved.

I present high standards in my teaching and management. I have extensive knowledge of different curriculum through my teaching experience and have successfully demonstrated myself to be a confident and competent teacher with the ability to integrate effective teaching strategies that make a positive contribution to all communities. As a leader, I except the same drive and passion from the staff I work with. In my last few roles it has had a large part of improving and up-skilling member of the PE in deeper understanding of teaching PE. My goal is to arm students with the knowledge and passion to follow their dreams and better understand them.

Everyone benefits from being active, and finding activities where each student feels comfortable to improve at their own level is very important. Being able to facilitate lessons where all students are engaged at their own level and feel successful is what I strive for in every lesson. My background in outdoor education (Department of Education NSW) and leadership programs have given me a wide range of skills and activities to enhance my pedagogical understanding. Including camping, hiking, skiing, canoeing, student excursions, leadership, culture, teamwork, communication and, teaching life skills and other exciting activities like horse riding, rock climbing and archery. I have organised school and inter school sports tournaments for schools in Sydney, in Europe and China. These have been one to five-day events including performances from different schools. They have been huge to organise and have been amazing for the school community. The wow moments normally come from these events for all stakeholders. Within schools, I have organised committee, (chaired) run meetings for staff and some for parents and students, duty rosters and emergency evacuation plan. Also, in Sydney I had to safety test building and spaces within the school and decide if they needed any safety changers over the summer.

Sport is an integral part of my life and something that I am strongly committed to and passionate about, competing in three World Cups for Touch Rugby and enjoying recreational sports as well. In each school community I have instilled the importance of a balanced life for everyone in a school. This, takes place every day, by welcoming everyone to school, taking with them about what is going on with them. Remembering who was involved with what and encouraging them to keep improving. Evaluating and reflecting on your own and the departments performance is essential for self-growth and the growth of the school. Working with teachers to become better is the best way to motivate them and gives the school and an excellent name internationally. Coaching has been a large part of my involvement within different school communities, including primary and secondary. I was lucky enough to plan a two-week Rugby tour to New Zealand in 2015, this was a wonderful experience to watch the students grow during the trip.
