Global Energy Management & Sales (GEMS) is one of the global business units of
ENGIE.

Its mission is to ensure the competitiveness of the business units of the group and develop its own franchise through a comprehensive range of services related to energy management.


  • Within GEMS Iberia, our Madrid based Short Term Optimisation team is responsible for a diverse portfolio in the Iberian market (e.g. 1.7GW of hydro assets, 1.8GW of wind and solar farms, 1.6GW of CCGTs, etc.). The Short-Term optimisation team brings our assets to the market (dayahead till delivery) delivering a feasible production plan to the physical dispatch teams.
  • To reenforce the team, we are currently looking for a
    Short-Term Optimizer for our headquarters in
    Madrid. Our daily activity combines a rich mix of operational activities performed in shift (calculating offers, managing short term markets, interaction with dispatch and TSO's) and projects shared between the different team members (such as improvement of tools and processes, analysing new market opportunities, methodological improvements, support to valuation/pricing of events/new contracts).

Mission
As part of the Iberian Short-Term Optimization team, you play a key role in providing energy management services for our own and 3rd party assets in Spain and Portugal


Functions

  • Maximizing value for power assets through 24/7 management of the different physical markets, from dayahead to near real time and ensure the proper capture of positions with a thorough understanding of the P&L
  • Defining and executing the bidding strategy for the different assets under management. Translating our market positions into an optimal physical planning, ensuring a physical balance.
  • Coordinate and validate the assets production planning and outages in close collaboration with the O&M stakeholders.
  • Have a deep understanding of the assets in the portfolio and their specificities, making sure that they are properly modelled across the IT landscape in place.
  • Designing and implementing models and prototypes, in particular related to the economical and physical optimization of power assets.
  • Continuously seek to identify new revenue streams, opportunities to increase profitability for the portfolio (e.g. better portfolio optimization strategies)

Minimum requirements

  • Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese.


  • English C

  • Master's degree in
    quantitative discipline (Engineering, computer science, physics, finance, etc.)

Up to 3 years of experience:


  • Experience in data analysis and/or
    coding skills (Python)

  • Any
    knowledge of physical power and gas markets is highly valuated.
  • Experience or strong interest in economic and financial interdisciplinary skills (trading, risk management, P&L, Reporting)
  • Professional experience on energy markets and/or digitalization.
