Descripción

The Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute (IJC) is a non-profit research institute based in Barcelona dedicated to advancing the understanding of leukemia and related disorders, in collaboration with the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona.

The IJC has laboratories in 5 clinical campuses:
i) Hospital Clínic, ii) Hospital de Sant Pau and iii) Hospital Germans Trias Pujol iv) Hospital del Mar and v) Hospital Josep Trueta Girona.

IJC serves as a collaborative centre for basic researchers and physicians to work together on fundamental clinical and biological aspects of leukemia.

The IJC offers an excellent work environment based on a multidisciplinary fusion of state-of-the-art ideas and facilities.

Research Description

Our lab focuses on understanding the pathogenic mechanisms and cell-of-origin of pediatric leukemias and developing novel adoptive immunocellular therapies based on the use of CAR T-cells.

To achieve these goals, we use cutting-edge in vitro and in vivo assays including a variety of primary leukemic and healthy samples (cord blood, peripheral blood, bone marrow), patient-derived xenografts, in vivo disease models, multi-OMICS, gene editing, confocal microscopy, cytogenetics, and molecular, biochemical and cellular assays.

This position is linked to the project CANCERNA "RNA processing for anti-cancer immunotherapy". "The CANCERNA project receives funding from the European Union's Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Programme under Grant Agreement No "

What we need

  • Solid experience in mouse handling, breeding, and welfare.
  • Experience with immunodeficient mice, patientderived xenografts, and cancer models for disease initiation and treatment.
  • Ability to design experiments and discuss them openly with other researchers in the team and external collaboration.
  • Flow cytometry analysis skills and cell culture knowledge.
  • A good command of molecular biology/biochemistry is not mandatory but would be a plus.
  • Knowledge on hematopoiesis, leukemia or immunotherapy.
  • Team player, very high standard of organization and communication is mandatory.
  • Eager to learn and contribute to preclinical research in the field of acute leukemia.
  • Driving license

Main Responsibilities

  • Help managing mouse colonies. Breeding of a large colony of immunodeficient mice (including NSG and NSGS strains).
  • Design, in close collaboration and communication with other lab members, in vivo experimental procedures and experiments

This includes:

  • Administration routes such as intraperitoneal, intravenous, subcutaneous, intratibial/intrafemoral, intrahepatic and oral gavage, etc.
  • Blood sampling from submandibular, tail, intracardiac and retroorbital plexus.
  • Mouse tail biopsy and genotyping.
  • Mouse bone marrow aspirates.
  • In vivo imaging techniques including bioluminescence.
  • Mouse euthanasia and tissue sampling.
  • Animal welfare supervision.
  • Supervise the development and evolution of the experiments.
  • Train other researchers and give technical support to collaborators of the group.
  • Implement and discuss the standard operating procedures for animal experimentation with the members of the group.
  • Codesign experimental plan along with the researchers of the group.
  • Assist in writing procedures and protocols for the Animal Ethics Experimentation Committee.
  • Run (independently and as a team player) cell culture, drug screening and flow cytometry assays.
  • Process primary blood, bone marrow and leukemic samples.

What we offer

  • Salary commensurate with experience.
  • A permanent contract linked to the research line Stem cell biology, developmental leukemia and immunotherapy and the project _"_RNA processing for anticancer immunotherapy_"_ (contrato por actividades científicotécnicas).
  • Full equipped lab and access to all core facilities necessary for this project.
  • Young and dynamic environment.
  • Collaborative project with opportunities for networking & continuous training.
  • Incorporation in a multinational and highly collaborative team.
  • An exciting and innovative research project.
  • Working in the mixed basic and clinical research environment of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute.

Who we are?

Our mission is to carry out research into the basic, epidemiological, preventive, clinical and translational aspects of leukaemia and other hematologic malignancies.

The vision of the Josep Carreras Leukaemia Research Institute is that research will identify new therapeutic targets and enable us to develop more precise and less aggressive treatments.

We aspire to understand the origin and development of leukaemia and other malignant haematological pathologies in order to be able to prevent them.

We will work for a future in which all leukaemia's will be curable.

The European Commission awarded the IJC the HR Excellence seal in July 2019. The IJC continues to work to maint
