Teaching Centre Assistant

Context:


  • British Council Spain operates a network of teaching centres throughout the country, delivering English teaching to some 30,000 students every year. In addition to teaching students directly, we operate the British Council's only school, in Madrid, a sizeable exams operation, we offer support in English language learning around the country, and we run strong programmes in arts and education and society. The British Council delivers a number of Early Years programmes in a range of different contexts in Europe to children between 2 and 5 years old. British Council Early Years provision is seen as pioneering best practice in ECE (Early Childhood Education) thereby enhancing UK's leadership and shared learning through international education.

Part-time. Various timetables offered both on-site and off-site. Extra-curricular English classes.


RolePurpose:


  • To support the class teachers in Teaching and Learning and with the care and wellbeing of the children at the British Council

Challenges & Accountabilities:


  • To support the teachers in the planning, preparation, delivery and assessment of all curricular related activies to ensure learning is advanced
  • To take an active part in the class activities, setting up planned activities, supporting pupils and responding appropriately, in order to advance learning
  • To use effective language, questioning and understanding to support learning activities
  • To support and create attractive and interactive displays to extend learning both within and beyond the classroom
  • To support any initiatives put into action in the centre
  • To ensure a safe and secure learning environment in the classroom
  • To constantly work to keep classroom areas tidy and free of clutter helping children to put away the equipment at the end of the day with the equipment well stored and the floor ready to be cleaned

Off-site specific duties:


  • To support Early Years teachers and offsite coordinator with collection of children from the playground before the beginning of classes
  • Help collect children who are missing from their class once the class has started
  • In agreement with the coordinator, inform parents of any absences
  • To work with more than one group of children if necessary

    Role specific knowledge and experience
  • Completed or undergoing educational qualification in teaching to EY or Primary aged children.
  • To use equipment and resources that are suitable for the size and maturity of the children in the class
  • To set up and clear the learning environment before and after each lesson as required
  • To be prepared to change and clean children if necessary (intimate care)
  • To pass on any information that comes to you in written or verbal form quickly and accurately, making sure that the information is given to all who need it
  • In agreement with the teacher, inform parents of any incidents that may have occurred during the day
  • Work with substitute teacher if main teacher is absent.

  • Right to work in country

  • Practical experience and/or training in an educational setting
  • Desirable 1 year of classroom experience working with children aged 25
  • B1 level or above in English and C1 level or above in local language.
