Join Axpo as a Security Engineer, and be responsible for maintaining and operating firewalls and other network security infrastructure for our company, both in the cloud and on-premises.

Together with the Senior Security Engineers and other departments (Network Team, SRE Engineers, CISO Office etc.), you will ensure security of the corporate network by enforcing firewall policies, monitoring network traffic and responding to security incidents, as well as ensuring that the defined security measures are effectively implemented.

What you will do:

Ensure the stable operation of the production environment by monitoring availability and taking a holistic view of system health
Assist in the configuration, installation, and maintenance of firewall devices, including implementing firewall rules, ACLs, and NAT rules
Monitor the firewall infrastructure, review logs and network traffic to identify and respond to security incidents, network anomalies, and performance issues
Troubleshoot basic firewall connectivity and rulerelated problems.
Help ensure compliance with firewall policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements, as well as support the implementation of security best practices and participate in regular firewall audits and reviews
Assist in the investigation of security incidents (firewall breaches, network intrusions, malware infections), and collaborate with other teams to mitigate and resolve security issues
Collaborate with senior engineers and crossfunctional teams to support ongoing projects and initiatives related to firewall management and network security
Contribute to maintaining accurate documentation of firewall configurations, policies, and incident response procedures, and assist in generating reports on firewall performance, security incidents, and risk assessments
Supports by integrating firewalls with other security technologies (Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS), VPNs or Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) platforms, etc.
)

What you bring and who you are:

You have a University degree in computer science or other relevant field
You have a good knowledge of firewall technologies (Cisco ASA, Palo Alto Networks) and you have acquired entrylevel certifications (e.g. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), CompTIA Security+)
You are well aware of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, subnetting, VLANs, SSL/TLS and DNS), and are familiar with network protocols and concepts
You are familiar with basic security principles, concepts, and best practices, as well as common security threats (malware, phishing, and DoS attacks)
You are able to analyze firewall logs, network traffic, and security events to identify potential security incidents or issues
You have basic knowledge in the field of Web Application Firewall (WAF) and proxy solutions
Basic Knowledge of automation processes such as IaaS, Terraform and experience in the cloud environment (Azure) are an advantage
You are a team player who has worked in agile teams before and is eager to learn from senior engineers and contribute to a positive team environment
You are open for occasional work on weekends, outside office hours and oncall duty
You have a good understanding of English, German is preferred but not essential
