Descripción

We're looking for an FPGA Engineer to join our advanced technologies
team in Granada, Spain.

Our Technology:

We have strong expertise in cutting-edge systems design for the largest world scientific facilities, from radio-telescopes, distributed neutrino sensors to most advanced particle accelerators.

In addition, Safran Navigation & Timing Spain has great expertise in Time Sensitive Networking through several engagements carried out in the framework of aerospace with ESA to provide deterministic communications with zero-packet loss.

Overall, we are a highly dynamic company with a clear focus on research and innovation for providing reliable solutions that have robust, dependable, and reliable timing at their core.

The Position:

You will work within the Special Project Unit (SPU). This unit aims to pursue technological breakthroughs in close collaboration with customers and international partners.

From ambitious new ideas to customer-driven product customization, the goal of this team is to combine the best of the innovation, deep technological expertise, passion for challenges and a customer-oriented culture to develop the future of the disruptive R-PNT solutions.

As part of SPU, you will start working on a flexible, result-oriented, and highly motivating team, working side by side with other engineers and customers all around the world.

You will be expected to develop the main FPGA elements of a synchronization system that extends the performance of White Rabbit timing over high-speed Ethernet interfaces, short/medium distances free space communication systems and satellite links.

Thus, you will be expected to work in the design, integration, testing, and validation of the main FPGA elements of prototype systems for high accuracy timing distribution.

This will include the implementation of custom HDL IP modules for timing recovery from serial interfaces, low-level debugging of HDL functions, the design of high-accuracy oscillator disciplining techniques, or the evaluation of the performance of different approaches to network timing distribution using phase noise indicators.

Data routing and switching capabilities will be also addressed.

The assembly of experimental demonstrators and in-lab proofs of concept either at the facilities of the company or in remote venues might be required during the final stages of the project.

What you'll be doing:

  • You will contribute to understanding, modifying and completing the customers' requirements and assisting in the development of a project that includes highly innovative elements.
  • You will use your critical thinking and problemsolving skills to ensure the highest quality for the results in accordance with the defined schedule, effort, and budget.
  • You will work with the latest and greatest in Resilient PNT and deterministic technologies
  • You will have effective communication with other project partners, project managers, and will be constantly communicating with them from project kickoffs to stakeholder meetings.
  • You will write deliverables, dissemination material, and assist in communication activities related to the project. You will also attend international workshops and other events of interest and participate in the design of offer and customer proposals.
  • You will be developing the key firmware and FPGA elements of prototyping systems for next generation data and PNT and timing solutions powered by White Rabbit technology. Validation of the design will also be an important part of the assignment, and hence you will be expected to produce meaningful test benches, simulations, and devise experimental evaluation and testing strategies to verify the correct operation of the different elements of the prototypes.

What you Bring to Safran:

  • Master's Degree in Telecommunications, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Excellent written and dissemination skills in English (advanced Cambridge certificate or similar).
  • Technical skills in general HDL IP module development, simulation, and testing.
  • Minimum requirement of 2 years' experience in:
  • Knowledge of Xilinx or Intel FPGA development tools and platforms.
  • Experience in embedded software testing and debugging.
  • Experience in FPGA logic design (VHDL/Verilog, logic simulation and test bench implementation, debugging, timing closure,...).
  • Provable experience successfully implementing and debugging custom FPGA IP cores to furnish specialized solutions for different computing problems and project requirements, such as network accelerators, image processing extensions,
  • Experience working with repositories and version control systems (Git, SVN,).
  • Desirable experience in:
  • Knowledge of Ethernet networking, such as link layer protocols, or MAC design and operation, would be nice.
  • Previous experience with other data transmission interfaces, such as Aurora, GMII, SGMII, RGMII, RapidIO serialization, generic PHY modules, or the Xilinx GTx
