Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.


The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people's quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science.

Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer's, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 30 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park.

IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the "Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya" (CERCA).


IRB Barcelona is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to study the organization of the microtubule cytoskeleton in stem cells and its contribution to tissue formation. A focus will be on mechanisms regulating microtubule assembly and disassembly.

DUTIES:


  • To work independently on research tasks within research project PID NB-I00 "Microtubule organization and its role in tissue formation", in coordination with the principal investigator and using the appropriate methods and/or techniques.
  • To produce research reports to the principal investigator of the above project and contribute to publications as required by the funding body and for dissemination to the wider academic community.
  • To provide guidance and support to students associated with the project.
  • To attend and participate in weekly group meetings and institutional seminars
  • To undertake any other duties relevant to the research project.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:


Must Have - Required
-
Experience: working with cilia models in an academic setting
-
Knowledge: cilia biology, microtubule cytoskeleton, tubulin assembly/disassembly
-
Skills: molecular biology techniques, advanced microscopy techniques


Desirable
-
Experience: expansion microscopy, live video microscopy

Knowledge: cell culture models

-
Skills: immunostaining, immunohistochemistry
