Job Description Summary:
This is a global engineering role that includes design, integration, and enhancement of windfarm control systems capabilities. Responsible for requirements flow down leading to design, implementation and validation of control systems at Wind Farm level.

About Us

GE Renewable Energy is one of the world's leading offshore wind energy companies, with a portfolio of offshore wind turbines ranging from 6 MW to 14 MW that offer increased value to customers with proven performance, reliability, efficiency and availability.

We have invested more than $400 million to develop the Haliade-X, an investment that will also drive down offshore wind farms' levelized cost of energy, helping make offshore wind energy more competitive for our customers.

The Haliade-X was the industry's first 14MW offshore wind turbine to operate, and is the only 12+MW offshore wind turbine platform that has been operating for over two years, specifically at its Rotterdam prototype site.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Engineering responsibility to design and develop algorithm to meet current grid codes for the wind farm level control system for the GE Renewables business.
  • Understand and develop the compilation of requirements from hardware and software point of view for the wind farm controller, based on grid codes and customer requirements.
  • Develop software and control algorithms for grid services including real power control, reactive power control, voltage control, etc.
  • Develop and troubleshoot ToolboxST code for wind farm grid services and be part of Hardware validation.
  • Execute complete design cycle (concepts, analysis, optimization, validation and coding) for controls of wind farm systems
  • Investigate controls issues, participate in identifying and implementing improvements in control strategies.
  • As a member of the controls team, participate in conceptual, detailed design, implementation and validation of the controls features.
  • Contribute to the definition and documentation of turbine operation modes and constraints. This includes creating the foundation on which controls architecture and approach can be modified to meet goals of improved performance and reliability.
  • Support validation model and platform improvements to enhance the software delivery quality.
  • Collaborate and work as part of a team including lead systems engineers to develop customerfocused solutions
  • As part of the broader control system design, interface with the turbine controls, operability and plant controls and incorporate collective requirements into the controller design.
  • Find and suggest performance optimization opportunities, including faster grid support of the GE wind farm system.
  • Formulate and implement plans to validate technical performance.
  • Participate as a presenter or reviewer in technical and program reviews

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Control Engineering, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering from an accredited College or University
  • Experience in reading and understanding Grid codes and other standards
  • At least 2 years of experience in an engineering position dealing with controls and electrical and electronic system design
  • Proven ability to work in a crossfunctional and global environment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • Effective problem identification and solution skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, proven leadership skills and a positive energy
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • EU Work Permit

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience with real time controls design or modeling
  • Experience in performing wind farm studies and creating wind turbine models
  • Proficient in Matlab / Simulink for the design and validation of controls systems
  • Experience with GE's MarkVIe or similar PLC's
  • Experience in wind industry with a focus on plant controls systems
  • Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, MODBUS, EGD, DNP3, OPC-UA and IEC61850
  • Experience in Offshore Grid Integration especially in wind farm control
  • Knowledge in ToolboxST programming and scripting expertise is preferred
  • Familiarity and practical experience with agile methodologies
