  • Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads largescale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 900 staff from 55 countries.

    Context And Mission
  • The applicant will develop new ideas in the field of computational seismology, towards enabling stateoftheart seisimc hazard, risk and monitoring algorithms with the help of artificial intelligence and supercomputers. The applicant will collaborate in projects DT-GEO, GEO-INQUIRE, KOIOS and ChEESE2p, towards next generation information systems for seismology.
    Key Duties
  • Develop new ideas in the form of operation prototypes for modellingbased seismic risk assessment
  • Integrate solutions within existing technical solutions, both developed internally at BSC or together with its international collaborators
  • Bring forward the stateoftheart in computational seismology by means of excellence research.

Requirements:


  • Education
  • PhD in natural sciences topics, related to earthquakes
  • BSc in sciences (physics, geophysics, mathematics...)
  • Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • 3year experience in seismology or geophysics.
  • A remarkable scientific track record with at least three highprofile publications in the field
  • Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
  • Required: programing skills in Python, and some other language.
  • Desired: experience in running distributed computing simulations.
  • Required: Excellent English, written and spoken
  • Desired: Experience in Data Analytics (ML, NN and the like)
  • Competences
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Multiple project management abilities are expected.

Conditions

  • The position will be located at BSC within the CASE Department
  • We offer a fulltime contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
  • Duration: Openended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
  • Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
  • Starting date: ASAP
