Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads largescale investments and HPC provision in Europe. Context And Mission
The Language Technology Group in the Life Science Department is looking for a Master's student to work in the field of Machine Translation involving Catalan. This work will be part of the ongoing AINA project to generate technology and language resources for the Catalan language.
Key Duties
Participate in internal group meetings and other scientific discussions.
Preparation and presentation of scientific articles.
Collaborate in the preparation and presentation of scientific projects.
Collaborate with the members of the group in the generation and evaluation of resources in Catalan

Requirements:

Education
BA in linguistics, translation or similar, with a background in computation
Master courses in computational linguistics
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
Programming skills (mainly python but also some bash)
Ability to access and evaluate scientific literature.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
Native competence in Catalan
Good knowledge of Spanish.
Fluency in spoken and written English.
Strong interest in NLP, Computational Semantics and Machine Translation.
Competences
Good communication and presentation skills.
Ability to work both independently and within a team.

Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department
We offer a fulltime contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with stateoftheart infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan,
Duration: Internship with the university
Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
Starting date: asap
