Overview, description and position scope:


The main functions of this role are to assist in the processing and analyses of potential transactions in Iberia and assist on the existing portfolio across Europe (Poland and Romania).

The position demands strong analytical skills, with a detailed understanding and ability to build financial models in excel. Knowledge of the agribusiness sector and in particular permanent crops is an advantage. Good understanding and ability to write in English is needed.


Detailed Duties:

  • Prepare investment proposals for the investment committee, preparing and collecting the necessary background information from internal/external sources and from potential clients/partners
  • Construct all financial models for presentation to the investment committee, using templates where needed or building from scratch
  • Assist and in some cases manage practical, financial, legal and environmental due diligence processes for prospective acquisitions
  • Assist in selection of crop managers who will contract farm the properties that we manage
  • Review budgets for contract farming each year, focusing on production costs, price and yield budgets
  • Review monthly budget vs actual management accounts for contract farming and investigate major discrepancies
  • Coordinate marketing of crops, organising committee meetings to review offers and researching new outlets
  • Prepare regular (quarterly and annual) reports to investors across the European funds (currently 2).
  • Assist in the preparation of approval requests for improvements/changes to existing portfolio properties across Europe and keeping a register of all such requests, ensuring compliance with approval limits and budget allocations.
  • Prepare annual property/fund budgets and track actual performance against these.
  • Maintain go forward fund models to establish cash flow and for example leverage capacity.
  • Assist on the annual portfolio valuation process across Europe.
  • Oversee the development and preparation of occasional communication tools for the investment committee and head office, including investor tour information and portfolio level presentations.
  • Prepare white papers on new crops, structures and possibly geographies
  • Other ad hoc tasks as requested from time to time

Professional Experience & Skills:

  • A strong background and understanding of accounting, business management, investment analysis and methodology for assessing investment performance
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills, interpersonal and management skills are a necessity for this position
  • The person holding this position will need to be personable and capable of working with a broad cross section of people including investors, portfolio managers, farmers and due diligence providers
  • Excellent English language skills are essential
  • Relevant work experience in investment management (farmland, agriculture, commercial real estate, private equity)
  • High degree of selfmotivation, dedication, creativity, and perseverance, including flexibility with time and willingness to accept a demanding (and personally satisfying) position
  • Experience with various regional or geographic agricultural crop types, production systems and investment underwriting experience are an advantage

Educational Requirements:

  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree in a relevant area of study; Business Administration, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness, Business Accounting and Finance or holding CFA and valuation qualifications
  • Practical experience or further education in agriculture and agribusiness would be beneficial
  • Ongoing training if required will be offered and provided
