Job Description Summary:

The main responsibility of the Lead Engineer Certification (further referred to as "Certification Engineer") is to ensure that GE ́s Offshore Wind Products are Type-certified according the IECRE OD-501 standard, throughout the entire lifecycle from NPI (New Product Introduction) through ITO (Inquiry to Order), OTR (Order fulfillment) & Service.

Your main activities include coordination of GE ́s design engineers and the accredited external certification body with the purpose that the design engineer ́s inputs (Technical reports, drawings, manuals, inspections) are on time and meet quality standards, as well as ensuring timeliness and quality of the accredited external certification body design evaluation activities.

You act as an interface internally between Program Managers, Resource managers and Design engineers related to Type Certification activities and externally represent GE Offshore Wind towards the accredited external certification body.

Roles and Responsibilities
Your main activities in the role of Certification Engineer will be:

  • Scope, plan and execute certification engineering activities in coordination with program managers, resource managers, system engineers, design engineers and the certification body.
  • Own the type certification activities as work package manager in support of the responsible program manager (NPI, New Product Introduction) or senior requisition engineer (DTO, Design to Order, for customer project)
  • Maintain budget for type certification related projects, including PO requests and manage goods receipt, invoicing, and PO closure. Provide yearly inputs to the budget planning process.
  • Provide & contribute to regular Type Certification process training for the Offshore wind engineering
- and other departments.

  • Support and facilitate customer meetings related to type certification, e.g., leading technical due diligence sessions.
  • Represent GE Offshore Wind in the international IECRE working group, and influence critical decision making, including prior internal communication and escalation of business relevant topics to senior executive management.
  • Propose and lead process improvements related to type certification.
  • Provide advice on GE typecertification strategy (management, designers etc.).
  • Coordinate type certification activities within Offshore Wind engineering and between Offshore Wind engineering and the certification body, i.e. demonstrate GE's compliance with international design codes to certification body technical experts with the support of design engineers.
  • Initiate and facilitate type certification regular working technical meetings between Engineering teams and the certification body (e.g. at design basis stage, initiating and leading Q&A calls towards the end of the type certification process)
  • Coordinate engineering analysis and validation methods improvements that need agreement with the certification body prior to the start of any certification activity.
  • Provide regular communication to leadership related to progress to program schedules, funding, and commercial risks.
  • Perform LEAN daily management of all certification activities for the assigned certification project(s), including providing progress feedback through an automated planning feedback tool and escalating blocking points.
  • Perform problem solving reporting around on time certification project delivery (OTD) in case the OTD KPI is more than two months below KPI target.
  • Organize and facilitate certification manufacturing audits and prototype inspections relevant to certification.
  • Oversee certification relevant validation activities with the flexibility to travel to site to support inspections
  • Interpret Code/Standard Requirements and develop clear compliance guides/input for design practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Safety, Environmental, or Industrial Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years' experience of managing certification activities related to complex engineering products within big organizations.
  • Indepth knowledge of international certification standards and related technical standards.
