We are looking for this role a professional to write profitable business in line with the underwriting plan, using professional judgement to achieve the target premium revenue, return on premium and business growth whilst operating in line with the Underwriting Manual and general compliance/regulatory and Company procedures.

To assist on underwriting risk exposures management through aggregate limits and reinsurance and day-to-day operations of the Casualty team in Spain, reporting to the Casualty Manager.

MAIN FUNCTIONS

UNDERWRITING

  • Underwrite profitable business in accordance with General Liability business plans.
  • Fully understand the risk & seek further clarity as required.
  • Analyzing claims experience to project future potential results.
  • Adhere to all underwriting standards as outlined in the Underwriting Manual.
  • Obtain signoff for all business that is in excess of agreed authority levels or where any factor falls below rating guidelines.
  • Adhere to rating tools and guidelines.
  • Ensure that underwriting documentation, both paper and electronic, is accurate, complete, uptodate, and meet the standards.
  • Ensure that the policy wordings & clauses are slip referenced and agreed.
  • Ensure that all accounts are contract certain at the time of binding.
  • Contribute to develop and enhance the rating tool(s) to enhance the range of exposures they encompass by testing and providing feedback on its use.
  • Capture market intelligence and broker feedback on accounts.

SUBMISSION MANAGEMENT AND BINDING

  • Evaluating, prioritizing and selecting submissions to be underwritten.
  • Ensure all bound, quoted, working and declined risks are logged as per guidelines.
  • Follow up on outstanding quotes with the relevant brokers.

  • Ensure the file is complete and contains all relevant documents. Obtain any outstanding items from the broker or underwriter in readiness for Peer Review.
  • Ensure signings are accurate and are consistent with written confirmations.
  • Liaise with brokers to follow up on outstanding renewals.
  • Ensure schedule data & quotations accurately into the system.
  • Ensure the Underwriting Notes are complete.
  • Conduct Quality Assurance (QA) within 2 working days of binding or inception (whichever is the earliest) to check the accuracy of underwriting data entered on the system, ensuring the risk is contract certain.
  • If Prebinding Peer Review is not done, a Post-Peer Reviews within 5 working days from QA must be made in order to ensure the underwriting rationale, terms and conditions, pricing against guidelines and the completeness of files.

PLAN, DEVELOPMENT AND PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT

  • Contribute to the business development of the Casualty area working hand in hand with the Area Director and the different department heads both locally and internationally, with strong relationship management and establishment of negotiations with the different brokers in the market. In addition, you will participate in the implementation of new products, improvements and revision of the portfolio.

EXPERIENCE

  • 45 years' experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of General Liability.
  • Knowledge on market wordings and clauses and reinsurance practices.
  • Uptodate knowledge of claims trends.
  • Use of Pricing/Rating tools.
  • Levels of authority and associated authorisation processes.
  • Understanding and Knowledge on Underwriting manuals.
  • Slip and file construction

  • Able to speak English and Spanish fluently both written and spoken. Portuguese is a plus.
  • Needs to be able to work independently, diligently and know when to ask for advice.

  • Proficient computer skills, ability to understand new systems.
